The AIURRI - LANDUA 2022 is the entry-level wine from the innovative Bodega Aiurri project, which means "character" in Basque. This wine is a brilliant, modern expression of the Rioja Alavesa , the northernmost sub-region, known for its elegant and refined style. The Landua reflects the unique influence of the Atlantic Ocean and the calcareous soils at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño.
Flavor Profile and Characteristics
The Landua 2022 combines Rioja tradition with modern precision, focusing on fruity freshness, silky tannins and mineral complexity.
Grapes
Primarily Tempranillo, supplemented with Graciano and Garnacha (and sometimes a small portion of indigenous white varieties). This blend comes from old vines (50 to 100 years old) in small plots.
Origin
DOCa. Rioja Alavesa, Spain. Vineyards in Leza and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, among others, protected by the Sierra de Cantabria.
Vinification
Vinified by plot (plot viticulture), with spontaneous fermentations in French oak barrels and concrete tanks.
Maturation
Approximately 9 to 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by a period in concrete tanks. This ensures integration and preservation of fruitiness.
Colour
Bright and clean cherry red.
Aroma
Expressive and elegant. The nose is dominated by red fruit (cherries, raspberries) and floral notes, complemented by hints of spice, a fine minerality, and subtle, well-integrated oak notes. The 2022 vintage shows riper fruit and balsamic elements.
Taste
Balanced and refined. Elegant and fruity freshness on the attack, with silky tannins and good structure. The fruit is ripe, with a perfect balance between acidity and body.
Aftertaste
Long and clean, with the character of the chalky terroir coming to the fore.
